What I am Working On
It all begins with an idea.
That line is how my website wanted to start this blog and I thought it was appropriate for the situation. As my debut novel will be coming out this month, I wanted to give you, my future readers, a taste of who I am, what I am working on, and what you might be able to expect from me if you follow along this journey with me.
A Little About Me
First off, before I dive into the various things I am working on, I want to introduce myself in a little more detail than the bio I have on this site or in my book. I am a nonbinary person who uses they/them pronouns. I am always open to talking about my identity with anyone who wants to learn more about it. I have earned a bachelor’s degree in writing, a master’s degree in criminal justice, and a doctorate degree in education—all earned before I turned 25. I currently have a full time job working remotely as a faculty member for an online university. I live on the east coast in the mid-atlantic region of the United States with my sibling, two dogs, and two cats. My parents live about twenty minutes away and the four of us are close. I have been writing fiction since I was in elementary school and have always had a dream of being a published novelist. I am looking forward to sharing my writing journey with you.
Reading
Every year, I give myself a Reading Challenge on Goodreads. This year, my goal was 30 books. So far, I have read 24 of the 30 books. My Goodreads account is here. You can see what I am reading, what I have read, and what I am planning on reading. A fun fact about this particular Goodreads account of mine is that every single book on the shelves is a book that I own in physical form. I am a bibliophile and am currently working on building myself an in-home library. You will see by the books shelved here that I have an eclectic collection. This is something you will soon learn very well about me. I am not a one genre, single lane kind of person. My interests are all over the place.
Writing
Speaking of interests that are all over the place, my writing is no different. It is for this reason that I would describe myself as an LGBTQIA+ novelist instead of one of the more traditional genres of fantasy or romance or horror. This is what you can expect of the books I have releasing: they will largely vary in main genre but will ALWAYS have LGBTQIA+ characters strongly represented and subplots that prove people in this community belong in every genre. My debut novel coming out this month is categorized as a dark fantasy. Other writers have advised me to do a different pen name for every different genre I write but I’d have at least ten pen names if I were to do that. To follow my debut novel, I am consider going with another in the dark fantasy realm in order to keep the two close together while I am building my following. We shall see and you will definitely here the news first here.
Vocal
Vocal is a website that I have been using to share smaller projects that aren’t full blown novels. I have some old excerpts of a novel I am revising called Green. While these excerpts show the characters in the United States, the story has been transported to my own fictional world and so it will be vastly different when it is completed. For now, I figured having these excerpts posted couldn’t hurt. There are also some short stories I wrote for my sibling’s Doc Holliday novel project posted here. My sibling is perhaps Doc Holliday’s biggest fan. You can check out their website all about him here. Additionally, I have a series of writing advice articles posted here and will be adding to that collection as I go. The newest and best thing I have posted is a chapbook called When the Lights Went Out about a college freshman who is abducted by a handsome vampire who had been trying to nab his attractive professor instead. The two embark on a journey through the vampire’s realm to return the college freshman to Earth and repay the vampire’s debt. I have up to chapter three posted and you can read the whole story here. Definitely subscribe to me on Vocal if you want writing updates like this. Your support will really help me out.
